Description
Color: Deep golden-straw with brilliant amber reflections. The visible weight of a barrel-aged white at its peak.
Nose: The bouquet is defined by a persistent mineral edge of wet stone and sea salt, underscored by sophisticated, measured oak. Subtle notes of sweet almond and toasted brioche emerge, gaining depth and complexity for thirty minutes after pouring.
Palate: Full-bodied and remarkably elegant, showcasing the creamy textural weight of Chardonnay aged on the lees. The Vernaccia provides a focused mineral grip and a structured backbone that balances the wine’s natural generosity. It is dry, layered, and deeply satisfying, with a clean, saline-driven finish.
A wine for a table with intention. Lobster in butter sauce, wild mushroom risotto with porcini or fresh truffle, roasted poultry with cream sauces, veal scaloppine, grilled sea bass with rosemary. Aged hard cheeses, and soft-ripened cheeses with depth.
The wine also handles richer Asian preparations with authority: Thai green curry, miso-glazed black cod, Cantonese roasted duck, where the ripe yellow fruit harmonises with umami depth and the acidity cuts through the richness.
Cortine Oro is Casa Emma’s flagship Tuscan white: a barrel-aged blend designed to highlight the unique contribution each variety brings to the final wine. Chardonnay provides body and structural depth, evolving elegantly in wood, while Vernaccia di San Gimignano, with its mineral character and subtle herbal notes, anchors the wine in its terroir, acting as the backbone that ensures overall balance.
The six months spent in French oak barriques allow the different varieties to come together in a harmonious expression. The result is a white wine with enveloping, refined aromas, a golden hue, and remarkable depth. It is a wine conceived for fine dining and capable of evolving over time.
Aging potential: a white that truly improves in bottle, a rare trait for Italian wines at this price point. Enjoy it now for its mineral profile and textural richness; it can age for up to three years, during which the oak integrates into the mineral structure, making the wine more precise and nuanced.
